BATTLE AND TEAS

Club Outing to Hinton Ampner 5th September 2018

After an easy journey, thanks to Tony, our Stewart’s coach driver, of just over an hour 25 Club members arrived at the National Trust property of Hinton Ampner in Hampshire, our destination for the day.  Following a swift check in 18 of us were soon off on a walk of 4-5 miles guided by Tim Humphries who pointed out the site of the Battle of Cheriton where, in March 1644, Parliamentarian forces under the command of Sir William Waller defeated a Royalist army.  We then wended our way along a winding path through some pleasant woodland before joining a short section of the Wayfarers Walk back to Hinton Ampner.  Everyone then dispersed for lunch before doing their own thing of visiting the house and/or gardens.

The afternoon soon passed and it was time for tea and cake (a National Trust must) before boarding the coach for a smooth journey back to Reading.

Another most enjoyable day thanks to Pauline’s superb organisation and Tim’s excellent leadership.
