Coach trip to Dyrham Park 5th October 2022
This was our first coach outing since Covid struck. Twenty-three of us boarded the coach to NT Dyrham Park. After some delay and a diversion due to an accident on the M4 we arrived at Dyrham Park in heavy horizontal rain and wind. Some members went straight to the house but most of us braved it to the start of a 5-mile walk. The weather slowly calmed down as we walked through the parkland, eventually enjoying panoramic views over the Severn Valley and the Welsh hills from a view point. We then left the grounds to head for an Iron Age hill fort, passing evidence of ancient strip farming en-route.
The loss of time encountered on our journey resulted in shortening the walk to enable us to explore the 17th Century house and grounds created by William Blathwayt. We also enjoyed a long awaited refreshment stop delayed as a result of the unexpected closure of a NT café on our walk route.
We overcame adversity and an enjoyable day was had by all.
